H.E. Jean-Marc Thystère-Tchicaya meets OPEC Secretary General

Vienna, June 19, 2018 — H.E. Jean-Marc Thystère-Tchicaya, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of the Congo, met today with Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), H.E. Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo.

During this meeting, the Minister of Hydrocarbons expressed his support to the Declaration of Cooperation between OPEC and non-OPEC member countries, and discussed issues of common interest between OPEC and the Republic of the Congo.

While Congo became this year sub-Saharan Africa’s third largest oil producer, it announced last January its intention to join the powerful oil cartel. In this context, H.E. Jean-Marc Thystère-Tchicaya reiterated the willingness of Congo to join OPEC in order to bring the Congolese voice to the organization and to support its effort towards international energy cooperation.

“We support OPEC’s efforts to preserve the stability of global oil prices while maintaining a favorable climate for investments into hydrocarbons,” the minister declared at the end of the meeting.
