WorleyParsons has signed a 22-month engineering contract for the Kipeto Wind Power Project in Kenya. The project, located south west of Nairobi, covers an estimated 70km2 and is the second largest wind power project in Kenya. It will include the construction of 60 GE wind turbines, producing 100 MW of renewable energy capacity.

WorleyParsons Project Director Tim Gaskell told Creamer Media’s Engineering News that the project would draw on the company’s Kenyan wind power expertise gained from the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project.

“Our successful execution of the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project and the experience gained played a key role in WorleyParsons having been awarded the Kipeto project.” he said.

WorleyParsons is contracted by Kipeto Energy Limited, which is financing, building and operating the project. China’s CMEC is the EPC contractor. Kipeto will contribute an estimated 15,000 MW to Kenya’s grid by 2030.
