APPO pushing for growth in local content by 2030
Making the announcement at the 2nd African conference on local content in the oil and gas industry in Angola, the Marketing Director of Africa Local Content, Sérgio Silva said that the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) plans to achieve a 30 percent share of local content services provided to the African oil and gas industry by 2030.
“Currently, the share of local content on the African continent is below 20 percent,” he said.
He added that to achieve the goal of 30 percent, there would need to be a law and a platform for APPO member countries to address concerns and to gather information.
This will form part of a report which will be prepared with recommendations and it will be given to African countries.
“Local content contracting policies should be seen as a balancing act and not mandatory, so that oil and gas companies operating in a particular country do not feel compelled, but encouraged,” said Silva.
He added that the hopes that the 2nd African conference on local content in the oil and gas industry will help to strengthen local activity in Africa.
