TGS commences a new seismic survey in Senegal
TGS has announced that it is conducting a new seismic survey in the MSGBC Basin, offshore Senegal and Mauritania. TGS provides multi-client geoscience data to oil and gas Exploration and Production companies worldwide.
The survey covers over 5,100Km2 with a modern broadband acquisition set-up. It has been designed to enable explorers to build upon the success the basin has experienced with the Sangomar field, the GTA complex and Yakaar discoveries.
Supported by Senegalese national oil company, PETROSEN, TGS has partnered with GeoPartners for this project, using the vessel, BGP Prospector. This survey is a continuation of the recently completed Senegal North Ultra-Deep Offshore (SN-UDO-19) 3D acquisition in southern Senegal.
Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, said “This survey will provide the industry with essential subsurface insight ahead of Senegal’s Offshore Licensing Round which is scheduled to commence early next year.”
Senegal is emerging as a key player in the global energy sector, and has proven that by announcing the country’s first ever oil licensing round. The round will include three offshore blocks and interested parties have from the end-January to the end-July 2020 to assess the blocks’ potential.
